The A98, a one-off built by AC Cars in England, featured a lower roofline than the similar American works car, the Shelby Daytona Cobras, which also competed in the endur\"\u0026\"ance classic that year. To test its top speed before Le Mans, Sears and co-driver Peter Bolton took the car to the M1 Motorway, where they both hammered a record 185 mph (approximately 296 km\/h) into the early June morning hours. Unfortunately, the Englis\"\u0026\"h newspaper world got wind of the affair, and the self-righteous headlines played a significant role in the imposition of the British 70-mile speed limit, which remains in place to this day. The car started the 1964 Le Mans with great promise, but burned \"\u0026\"to a smithereens during the race after an accident at the Mulsanne corner.
