Originally conceived as a radical departure from the traditional single-"&"seater concept in America, the DeltaWing ultimately found favor in sports car circles. Don Panoz and Dan Gurney backed the project with their companies. Despite being powered by only a 2-liter turbo engine, its radical triangular design proved more effici"&"ent than its LMP rivals when the ACO invited the car as a revolutionary, unclassified ""Garage 56"" entry for the 2012 24 Hours of Le Mans. The project received significant support from Nissan, whose last Le Mans factory appearance with the R390, shown he"&"re in prototype form, took place in 1998. Unfortunately, the DeltaWing car was ""shot down"" by a Toyota exiting the Porsche Curves and ended its promising race there in the wall. One of the pilots was Marino Franchitti, the brother of Indianapolis legend"&" Dario Franchitti.
