LMP2 is the prototype class for privateer teams and one of the most fiercely contested classes at Le Mans. Since 2017, all teams have been using a chassis from one of a handful of approved manufacturers – such as the Oreca 07 – and the same Gibson V8 engine. Because the technology is so similar, victory comes down to the drivers, strategy and teamwork. Each team must field at least one amateur driver alongside the professionals. Year after year, the LMP2 attracts a large, tightly packed field to the start line and serves as a springboard into the works teams for many young talents. In 2017, an LMP2 car even finished second overall at Le Mans. The images in this collection show the prototypes in this class.
