The "estate" caused quite a stir at the Nürburgring in 2026. What began as an April Fool's joke saw BMW engineers create the BMW E81 as a real Touring version, making a bold statement. The BMW M3 GT3 Shell Estate was incredibly fast and finished in a sensational fourth place with drivers Jens Klingmann, Ugo de Wilde, Connor de Phillippi, and Neil Verhagen. Third place went to the Team Rowe BMW M4 GT3 #99, pictured on the left, driven by Daniel Harper, Max Hesse, Sheldon van der Linde, and Max Vanthoor. The Rowe BMW M4 GT3 #1, the defending champion from 2025, experienced problems in the 2026 race and retired on lap 49.
